Internet FAQs
Q: Where do I find more information
on NU-Telecom's spam filtering service or more info on the Spam Digest that I
receive via email?
A: Easy! Click HERE for more info.
Q: How do I get Internet service?
A: A signed application is required before Internet service will be
activated. Visit your local office to fill out the application and receive your
instruction packet, or call to have the application mailed to you.
Q: How much will Internet
service cost?
A: FETCH Internet service charges depend on the service package that is chosen.
Contact NU-Telecom
for pricing.
Q: How do I get it set up
in my house?
A: Instructions are provided for necessary computer settings and setup.
NU-Telecom will need to come out to hook up FETCH DSL.
Q: Do I need additional
phone lines?
A: FETCH Internet can run over your existing 1 phone line. Using FETCH
Internet, you may use the Internet and talk on the phone at the same time.
Dial-up service may use your existing 1 phone line, though you can only be on the
Internet or talking on the phone. You can't do both at one time. While your
connected to the Internet with dial-up, no calls will come through. Dial-up
customers can get a second line to keep the phone line open at all times.
Q: Why does my Internet
connection keep dropping?
A: With dial-up, the connection can drop for several reasons. There may
be some modem settings that can be adjusted to make your connection more stable
or there may be updated modem drivers that can help your modem connect at faster
speeds with more reliability, in either case you would want to check with the
modem manufacturer's website for modem settings or the availability of updated
drivers. Another cause of disconnects could be static on your phone line. Hook
up a corded phone to the phone jack that your computer connects to and listen
for any static on the dial tone. If there is static,
contact us and we
will have a technician checkout the line.
Q: What do I do if I get no
Dial Tone when trying to connect to Dial-up?
A: First thing you should make sure is that there is dial tone on the
phone jack that the computer is connected to. If that is fine try a different
phone cord. If those are both fine there is a good chance that your modem may
have been hit by an electrical surge and in that case you will need to install a
new modem.
Q: How do I find out if I
can get Rural DSL?
A: Simply contact
us and tell
us your phone number. We will then look in our records and find out if we can
reach you with our DSL service.
Q: I have Internet at home,
can I take my laptop and use it anywhere?
A: If you have dial-up, you can (long distance fees may apply though). If
you have FETCH, you can not.
Q: Would I get an email
account if I have NU-Telecom's Internet service?
A: Yes! Dial-up accounts include one email address but with FETCH DSL you
can have up to 5 addresses. Additional email accounts beyond that may be
requested for a fee.
Q: Where can I access my
email?
A: Email may be accessed through a software program such as Outlook
Express. The same accounts may also be accessed on any computer with an Internet
connection through our E-mail's web interface:
http://mail.newulmtel.net
Q: How do I access my
free
web space?
A: First, you need to
contact NU-Telecom
and let us know that you want to activate your free web space. After the space
is activated, we have FTP instructions
available to assist you in
posting your web pages.
