Hiding Email Addresses Using BCC

Avoid that mess of multiple e-mail addresses showing on the messages you send!

Have you received e-mail messages like the example below, with lines and lines of addresses at the top of the message

There is a simple way to avoid sending messages that start with long lists of addresses. When entering multiple addresses that you want to send to, instead of putting the addresses in the To: section as in this example

...enter them in the BCC: section, like the example below.

  • "BCC" stands for Blind Carbon Copy

  • Having addresses in the To: or CC: area is then optional

The Result
As usual, any addresses that were in the To: or CC: areas will be seen by the message recipients. But, any addresses that were entered in the BCC: field will not show, as in the example below. And, if the message is forwarded to other readers, the BCC: addresses again would not show.

Use the BCC: option to:

  • avoid sending a list of addresses out for the world to see

  • make your messages neater for the reader

  • recipients won't know if you sent the message to 1 person, or 100!

More Ideas:

When forwarding a message that already lists a lot of addresses and header information, you can easily clean it up.

Just highlight the unnecessary information and delete it. Done!
